About CharLet me begin by stating that I am a complex person. I had a professor in college who would meet one-on-one with his students each semester. Every time I would sit down in his office for that meeting he would say, "So, Char... tell me about yourself." I should be the expert on myself... I mean, I am me, right? But there are so many aspects to the answer of "who is char?" that I don't really know where to begin, but I'll give it a shot.
I grew up in beautiful Northern Michigan (pictured above). I am the second of 4 children. My parents divorced when I was young and both remarried. My step-dad was one of the best things that could have happened to our family. He loves us as his own children and is a great husband to my mom. I couldn't be more thankful for him! Today I live in Central Upstate New York with my husband, Mitch, and son, Emmanuel. |
I like to paint, read, and lift. And when I say lift... I mean, LIFT! In 2012 I discovered my love of strength training. I am very passionate about fitness and overall health. In March of 2018 I became a certified personal trainer. It's the kind of job I could do for years and not become bored. A good morning for me is one where I have a brutal workout at the gym, get to spend some quality time in personal Bible Study with a cup of coffee, and get some snuggle time in with my baby boy.
I have taken the Myers Briggs personality test multiple times, and have gotten different results so many times, its not even funny! I would say I am more of an introvert. I love my time at home, and sometimes spending too much time with people leaves me exhausted. But, other times, I feel like I need to be around people or I will lose my mind, and they energize me. I am a thinker and a feeler. I'm logical, but I'm very emotional (its a paradox even I have a hard time understanding most days). I am very pragmatic and realistic, but my mind is very creative and is always buzzing with new ideas I want to explore. I'm very decisive and organized. If you stop by my house on pretty much any given day, everything is in its place and all surfaces and floors are clean. But despite my organized nature, I love spontaneity and improvisation. I tend to be less assertive and more sensitive to stress and self-consciousness. I have a much harder time letting things "roll of my back" than others.
I love a change now and then. I like taking old things and making them into something new. I like exploring new ways of expressing my creativity. I dream big, although I don't talk about my dreams with many people. I have few friends, but the friends I do have are close and we talk often. I love my family. If I could spend every weekend with my parents, I probably would! I love scheming with my sister to think of new excuses for everyone to get together. My favorite part of the day is between the hours of 5 and 8. These are the hours my husband, son, and I get to spend as a family. I love being a wife and I love being a mom. I am blessed beyond words to be able to do both full time.
I love dark chocolate, coffee, tea, Thai food (ok, make that any Asian food, but Thai food in particular), pretty much anything spicy (and by spicy, I mean hot... the kind that hurts your stomach for hours), and ice cream! Ice cream is my weakness. If there were no negative consequences to eating ice cream on a daily basis, I would probably do it. I love thrift store shopping. I rarely buy anything brand new. From childhood I learned to be frugal, and finding the best deal possible is almost like a game to me that I always get to win at.
I love learning. This is especially true when it comes to my personal spiritual growth. I love reading a book of the Bible that I have read a million times, but I feel like I am reading it for the first time. I love the insights that the Lord gives me each time I look into His word. It is rare that I leave my time with the Lord without learning something new about Him or about myself. Even though my son is so young, I regularly share the gospel with him. One of the many beautiful truths about the gospel is that it transcends all ages. I don't know at what age children begin to understand such things, but I love being able to go over biblical truths with him. This is one of my favorite parts about motherhood... what a privilege to be entrusted with teaching my child the word of God in our home!
