WatercolorThe medium of watercolor and I have a close relationship. During a very difficult time in my life, I spent a lot of time painting. Watercolor art became a sort of therapy for me. My sister is a counselor and she uses art therapy in session on a regular basis, so I know now that I'm not crazy! It really does work!
From 2014-2015 I worked primarily with watercolor, until I discovered my love of mixed medium! My favorite subject in watercolor is probably landscape. I like the idea of creating a place that only exists in my mind. I like looking into a painting and imagining myself escaping to that place. I can almost hear the wind in the grass, the birds in the air, and the waves on the shore. I grew up in beautiful Northern Michigan, so I'm very partial to water landscape. So, don't be surprised to find that majority of my landscapes contain water, beaches, sailboats, dune grass, and seagulls. I love home, and art allows me to visit more often than I am able. Another unique aspect to watercolor that I love is the texture that is able to be created. I like being able to make rocks look like rocks and make tree bark look like tree bark. I'm a realist, and I love the aspects of different mediums that allow me to be creative in my realism. Watercolor is able to be used very vibrantly and boldly, but it can also be very thin and have a light pastel look. It's a very versatile medium. I love it.
