Chatting with Manny

So, I’ve seen how parents will conduct these cute interviews with their toddler. “I interviewed my 2-year old!” Or “I interviewed my 3-year old!” I’ve read them, and kids give such cute answers. So, I thought I’d try it with my own toddler. Ok, do people make up their answers? Or do they legitimately interview their kids? Because, it was so hard to get a straight answer out of him. Getting him to focus long enough to eat a bite of dinner is hard enough... getting him to focus long enough to answer an interview question?! Nearly impossible!!!

I have to say, before sharing my questions/answers, I had to ask each question an average of 15-20 times... but that is honestly probably the low end. No exaggeration. I started out video taping the interview, thinking, “I can just watch it back and write down his answers.” But after filming question 1 for 2 minutes and getting nothing but a child running laps, jumping, falling over repeatedly on the couch, and acting out David and Goliath... I thought... “There is not enough phone space in the world to accommodate this interview!” So, I asked and wrote... and it took me close to an hour to get through. Never again.... that’s all I can say... Never again, haha.
1. What is something Mommy always says to you?
(No answer on this one. I tried rephrasing and even prompting... I gave up and moved on to question 2)

2. What makes you happy?
“God makes me happy!” (So thankful for repeptative discipleship on this one!)

3. What makes you sad?
“It makes crying *pitiful fake cry*... that’s sad”

4.
What makes you laugh?
“HAPPY!”

5.
How old are you?
“Two thumbs up!” (He’s 3)

6. How old is mommy?
“You’re three”

7.
How old is daddy?
“He’s three”

8. What is your favorite thing to do?
“It’s my favorite hot dog!” *repeatedly falls backward on couch*

9. Who is your best friend?
“Thanks bro!”
(After rephrasing the question and trying again about 5-10 times:)
“Mommy!” (Aww, thanks Mann... I start writing down the answer. While I write he changes his mind)
“Daddy! Chick Hicks! Lightning McQueen! Dinaco!”

10. What do you want to be when you grow up? (Rephrase:) “Where do you want to work?
“Daddy’s office”

11. What are you good at?
“No! I’m not!”
Manny, you’re good at things. What are you good at?
“I have something! Mommy! Just give me one second!”

(Never did give me an answer)

12. What did you do today?
“I just got hot” (It’s January... definitely didn’t get hot)

13. What is your favorite food?
“*Sigh*....Never mind”

14. What is your favorite song?
(I wish I could give an answer here, but he just danced.... if you can call it dancing... it was very exuberant... on the couch, made a lot of noise, then made the “gun hands” and said “boom! I love that song”... Not a song... but it was better than no answer)

15. What is your favorite animal?
“A Savage!!! *roaring*”.
Any other animals you like?
“I like a tiger! I like a bear! I like a monster!”

16. What is love?
“Don’t be mad! It’s just a thing!” (I was not mad, haha, but definitely asked again because I knew he knew how to answer a question like this).
“Love is kind. Love is not rude” (Again, repetitive discipleship)

17. Where does daddy work?
“He works at the new church”. (This is actually correct)

18. What does he do there?
“He just says ‘KACHOWWWW!’” (And that’s how we pay the bills, haha, daddy says ‘Kachow”)

19. Where do you live?
“I live in America”.
(Sometimes he is difficult to understand... different words sound alike... I think this might be a situation like that, because his answer to the following question sounded almost the same, and I double checked on that response)

20. Where is your favorite place to go?
“I’m a miracle”.
Yeah, you are, but where is your favorite place to go?
“Do you remember David and Goliath?”

21. What is your favorite book?
“This one!”
That’s not a book.
“No! HAHA! It’s just a picture!”

22. What does daddy always say?
(No answer)

23. Who is your favorite superhero?
(I honestly thought I would get a response here, but he was WAYYYY unfocused)

24. Precursor: This is the ONLY question I asked one time and got an answer. The ONLY one.

What do you dream about?
“Ummm... I was dreaming about... noodles”. (Too much Kung Fu Panda)

25. How does mommy show you she loves you? What do I do to give you love?
“Hahaha! I just pooped!” (He totally didn’t... just tooted really loudly... boys...)

If you have a toddler, try this out. For fun, you can leave your results in the comments below. I’m curious as to whether others have success or if every child is as distracted as mine is 24/7.
