So, I welcome 2017 and look forward to all it will bring!
I will be posting video blogs of each A-Z Family Day, so be watching!
With the start of a new year, everyone is setting goals. I feel like the expression "New Year's Resolution" carries negative connotations, and it really shouldn't. I make plans and set goals all year round. And I often do resolve to do new things as a new year begins. I set financial goals, spiritual goals, physical goals, domestic goals, relational goals, etc. Sometimes my plans are small: Being more hospitable and inviting more people over this year. And sometimes they are big: pay off $20,000 worth of student debt. Either way, I am always planning and setting goals. I like seeing the goal-line get closer as the months pass. One thing we, as a family, resolved to do this year is something we are calling "A-Z Family Day." We work through all 26 letters of the alphabet and are forced to get creative. Mitch started with A. So, he had to pick an affordable (or free) activity for us to do as a family that begins with the letter A. I have B next, then Mitch gets C, and so forth. It keeps us always thinking of fun creative things that we can do together, so we don't resort to just sitting at home wishing we had done something. I love spontaneity, don't get me wrong, but with a toddler, spontaneity is better planned ahead. I loved 2016. It really was a great year for me. I feel like a lot of people talked about how awful 2016 was, but for me, it was a year full of blessings. It was our first full year as parents. Emmanuel grew and learned so much. We got to visit with family so much this year. Always, not as much as I wish, but a lot more than usual. We finalized Emmanuel's adoption a couple weeks after his first birthday. We painted and re-decorated our little apartment and made it feel so much more like a home. I organized and executed my first paint night. I launched my Etsy shop and started making sales. We paid off a lot of debt and started seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. We walked a lot this summer and enjoyed each season in it's time. I discovered I have asthma and got an inhaler... I was able to start running, and I could breathe for the first time ever! I started my first effective reverse diet, and I am eating more food than ever before. I reached new feats of strength and have lifted more than I ever have. I feel like this was a successful year for us.
